A very beautiful film, ... a story about the other side of the Samurai, revealing a human face and glorious in addressing the social life and style of the time.
The only thing in common with "The Last Samurai" is the historical period between the end of the Tokugawa and early Meiji era, but for the rest of the film is very different.
touching and deep, tells the story of a Samurai who faces difficulties of life "from non-combatant" in the routine course of their work. Without pride or desire for revenge, maintaining, however, a moral rigor of a true Samurai, sometimes almost reflecting some concepts of the Hagakure.
There are no epic battles or riots, if not two, major moments that provide a precise statement of ethics that moves Seib Iguchi.
Seib loses a spouse with custody of two daughters, one 5 and the other for 10 years and a mother with dementia. One night the daughter, and recited some verses of Confucius asks his father if it were not for the most useful to learn to sew, so you can earn some money and live a little 'better.
Seib, then, says that the sewing could certainly be useful, but "... learn from books gives you the ability to suffer. As it may change the world, with the ability to think to survive in some way . And this is true for both children and girls ... .
